Project Description
The Smart Classroom AR application
The Smart Classroom AR application offers over 200 augmented reality exercises for students from 1st to 12th grade and is constantly updated with new subjects and classes.
The Smart Classroom AR application is completely free and allows you to work with augmented reality exercises created on the ideas of Bulgarian teachers. The application is part of the platform Smart classroom, created by Samsung Bulgaria to help students and teachers to digitize and modernize the learning process.
How the teachers create their AR exercsizes?
We’ve created a web interface with a 3d simulation functionalities. There is a 3d objects gallery as well where the teacher finds a suitable for their exercise object. Every object has a list with options – if the student can touch it, zoom it, rotate it, throw it (we support gravity, too).
After the exercise is ready, the teacher publishes it for review. The smart classroom team checks it for correctness and makes it public. The students then find it in their mobile app.
How the students complete the exercises?
They start the app, and then, on their camera, it draws all the 3d objects the teacher used in creating the exercise. The app counts time and tracks if the student gives correct answers.
Who is the client?
The client is Samsung Bulgaria. We created the platform in partnership with Eduction 5.0.
What was our team responsible for?
We had to design the whole platform architecture to allow teachers create AR exercises simply by drag and drop. They don’t need to install anything on their computers. They only need an access to the system.
An important part was to provide a mechanism to verify the exercise content by the smart classroom team. If they found anything wrong, they had to notify the teacher to correct what’s necessary.
A challenge was to load the exercise in the app without updating it. So when the teacher publishes their exercise it appeared in the app for execution immediately.
After the exercise is ready, the teacher publishes it for review. The smart classroom team checks it for correctness and makes it public. The students then finds it in their mobile app.
What technology did we use?
For the app we used both Java and Unity3d. The web interfaces were created in Angular. The backend was developed in Spring with java.
